Banquets

For more than 180 years, the majestic stone walls of the British Hotel have hosted weddings, banquets, and even a royal visit.

Traditional Beauty

Since the early 19th century, the British Hotel has stood witness to some of the most important events in Quebec’s history. It has been an inn for weary travellers, a venue for world-class music, and a gathering place for Canada’s post-Confederation elite.
Made of stone and wood, with walls four feet thick to keep out the intense Canadian cold, this unique building was built in the Georgian architectural style but with Quebec influences such as rooftop dormer windows, elevated front steps, and the stone arch or porte-cochère entrance.

Modern Elegance

Once the most elegant hotel west of Montreal, the British was lovingly restored and renovated from 2012 to 2015 to return it to its original beauty and grandeur, including the 1834 ballroom, the Public House restaurant, and ten contemporary hotel rooms and suites.
Today, we pay homage to the unique past of this heritage building by offering guests a balance between the traditional and the stylish — the perfect mix of classical beauty and modern comfort, elegant surroundings and a warm and welcoming ambiance.

GOLD ROOM

Steeped in the history of Canada’s elite, the Gold Room brings traditional elegance to every occasion.
As part of the original 1834 construction, the Gold Room has seen the likes of Sir John A. Macdonald sipping beer by its fireplace and the Prince of Wales dancing across the ballroom floor. From its beautifully restored stone masonry to the grand piano that graces its lobby, the Gold Room offers a sophisticated backdrop for both wedding ceremonies and receptions. It has a seating capacity of 130 and is fully equipped for multimedia presentations.

COURTYARD

Tucked between the heritage buildings of the British Hotel and Café British, the courtyard offers the perfect location for a piazza-style outdoor wedding.
Lined with maple trees, park benches, and old-fashioned lamp posts, the courtyard is available year-round for wedding ceremonies, with a seating capacity of up to 140. After dark, its stone steps light up in different colours, adding a playful touch to nighttime festivities.

THE VIP ROOM

As the British’s best-kept secret, the VIP Room offers groups of up to 12 a private meeting place in the hotel’s basement. Tastefully renovated, the VIP Room’s original wooden beams and stonework create a refined atmosphere perfect for everything from board meetings to whiskey tastings.

THE LOUNGE

The Lounge is a private dining room suitable for smaller weddings and events. It can comfortably seat up to 46 people, and includes access to a flat screen TV that can be used for multimedia presentations.
The north and west walls of the room are lined by large, sunny windows, adding to its warm and cheerful atmosphere.
